 Joe C. Meek III was elected to the Board of County Commission in November 2008 and is working hard on the issues before Citrus County. He has stated that his main focus points include working to reduce government spending and increase its efficiency, work to implement policies that create strong economic growth, and bring a long-term plan and vision to Citrus County.
Joe currently serves as chair of the Value Adjustment Board and also serves as a member of the Citrus, Levy, Marion Regional Workforce Development; Early Learning Coalition; Economic Development Council; and the Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council.
Joe was born and raised in Citrus County. He is married to his best friend and love of his life, Amy Meek, and they have two sons, Joseph and Jackson. He graduated from Crystal River High School in 1998 and then moved to Tampa, Florida to attend the University of South Florida where he was involved in the Business College Council and served as a Student Senator. Joe graduated from USF in 2002 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management.
In 2003, Joe and his wife moved back to Citrus County to start a business and eventually raise a family. He is the owner and president of a business that works to provide affordable homes to the residents of Citrus County. He is a licensed Building Contractor and Real Estate Sales Person. He is a member of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce, where he served on the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee. Joe was also a member of the Citrus County Commerce Coalition, known as C4. He served on the School Board and Advisory Committee for the private Catholic School, Pope John Paul II. Joe is also the 2010 Campaign Chair for the United Way of Citrus County.
In 2006, he and his wife started The Joe and Amy Meek Scholarship Foundation, which funds and awards scholarships to children from Citrus County public high schools. He is the Chairman of the Board for the Foundation and actively involved in helping local children in education.
